HoLEP Prostate Laser Surgery in Turkey

What Is HoLEP Prostate Laser Surgery?

HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) is an advanced, minimally invasive laser procedure used to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) — the non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate.
During HoLEP, a powerful holmium laser is used to remove the overgrown prostate tissue that blocks urine flow, restoring normal urination without any external incisions.

It is considered one of the most effective and long-lasting treatments for enlarged prostate, especially for large glands.

Why is HoLEP Surgery Needed?

Why is HoLEP Surgery Needed?

HoLEP is recommended for men who experience:

  • Weak urine flow or difficulty urinating

  • Frequent urination, especially at night

  • Urinary retention or recurrent infections

  • Bladder stones caused by obstruction

  • Incomplete bladder emptying

  • Enlargement not responding to medication

  • Large prostates (usually > 80–100 grams)

HoLEP provides permanent relief, unlike medications which may only reduce symptoms temporarily.

Types of HoLEP Procedures

At Büyük Anadolu Hospital, our urologists perform:

Standard HoLEP

Laser enucleation of obstructive prostate tissue.

HoLEP with Morcellation

Removed tissue is broken into small pieces and extracted safely.

HoLAP (Holmium Laser Ablation of the Prostate)

An alternative for smaller glands when appropriate.

How is HoLEP Surgery Performed?

  • Performed under general or spinal anesthesia

  • Duration: 45–90 minutes

  • A thin scope is inserted through the urethra — no incisions

  • Laser separates and removes the enlarged prostate tissue

  • Extracted tissue is analyzed for pathology

  • A urinary catheter remains for 12–24 hours

  • Hospital stay: typically 1 night

HoLEP is particularly effective for very large prostates where other treatments may fail.
